Overview

TheCompTIA PenTest+certification is designed for cybersecurity professionals who specialize in penetration testing and security consulting. This certification ensures candidates have the skills to plan, scope, and execute penetration tests across multiple environments, including cloud, web applications, and IoT. With performance-based questions, it provides hands-on verification of candidates’ competencies, covering modern penetration techniques, vulnerability analysis, and ethical hacking principles.

Objectives

Upon completion of the CompTIA PenTest+ course, participants will be able to:

• Planning and Scoping – Define penetration testing objectives, compliance requirements, and engagement documentation.
• Information Gathering and Vulnerability Identification – Perform reconnaissance and enumerate systems to assess vulnerabilities in various networks and systems.
• Exploits and Attacks – Develop the capability to conduct attacks across different vectors, including network, wireless, and application-based methods.
• Post-Exploitation Techniques – Practice methods of maintaining access, lateral movement, and system cleanup after an engagement.
• Reporting and Communication – Document findings, provide remediation recommendations, and effectively communicate results.

Prerequisites

Network+ or Security+ certification (recommended). 3-4 years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity or a related field. Familiarity with scripting languages for reconnaissance and enumeration (though coding is not mandatory). Understanding of compliance frameworks such as HIPAA and GDPR. Knowledge of basic penetration testing concepts, including vulnerability analysis and threat management.
